We were able to use the Specialized Prime-Series Thermal gloves in fall 2020 and spring 2021, each time in cold conditions, keeping to the brand’s specific program.
It’s a great product to use in more ways than one. The gloves are supple, comfortable, and warm but too warm. You have good hold and precision on the handlebars. You can nimbly grab a gel from your jersey pocket.
The Specialized Prime-Series Thermal are easy to put on because the wrist area opens up wide. A Velcro flap means you can put the glove above or under your coat cuffs. Below seems the most realistic option to us. Despite having a fairly big flap and a yoke to grip it, this area stays flexibility and comfortable. Wearing a large GPS watch is not a problem. But getting rid of the massive, long labels inside the glove is an excellent idea – snip, snip!
The gloves are made from Polartec Neoshell. The fabric with a membrane is slightly stretchy, windproof and resistance goes beyond repelling water in terms of protection (even if it isn’t totally waterproof). What did we like? We liked the immediate warmth effect and wind protection provided by the Specialized Prime-Series Thermal. The palm has a hydrophobic coating, the thumb and forefinger are kitted with Wiretap, a zone on the fingertips that enables you to surf on your smartphone. It’s quite effective even if you don’t have the finesse that you would have with a bare finger.
The Specialized Prime-Series Thermal gloves size small, they are obviously designed to be very snug fitting to maintain precision, there’s nothing worse than bulky gloves. But when purchasing, choose the size carefully, especially if you do it online.
The 55g weight in size M is very much in line with what you would expect from this type of product. Gloves do not take up much space in a jersey pocket even if they are not compressible.
For those of you who forget your handkerchief, a quick swipe of the glove across your nose works wonders!!
The Specialized Prime-Series Thermal gloves are wash-resistant. The color is quite UV resistant, however, it will be necessary to check that over a longer time period.
We had doubts about the toughness of the wrist flap seam. But it was fine. The wrist area is also very aesthetic thanks to the use of a pre-shaped fabric, and they are very carefully made. The assemblies and seams are neat.
The price is in the upper standard range but remains decent for this quality. The Rapha Pro Team Softshell that we also tested are also in the same budget range.
The Specialized Prime-Series Thermal in Polartec Neoshell are very good cycling gloves that enable you to maintain finger precision while providing thermal and wind protection. A comfortable and supple product.
