This Dynastar Speed Omeglass Master SL was tested in the 175 cm length with a 15-meter turn radius. Despite its SL (Slalom) designation, it is a ski that feels relatively comfortable across medium to even long radii. Carving ultra-short turns is not easy at all if you have a lighter build. This is a ski with real guts and substance underfoot. Another factor to consider is that it comes mounted with a race plate, making it far from simple to flex and load.
This ski lives up to its “Speed” name, and its race heritage is obvious. It is a fairly heavy ski. It exhibits no chatter and holds high speeds—and even extreme speed—rock-solidly on edge. You instantly feel its solid hold and overall serious nature.
The construction is gorgeous, free of gimmicks. It is clean and razor-sharp in its execution, featuring subtle selective varnish effects on the tip and tail forebody. It has a beautiful rounded tip shape; there is no question you are stepping into a true racing atmosphere.
Despite packing an engine brimming with energy, the Dynastar Speed Omeglass Master SL remains an enjoyable ski. It rides flat and skids turns without much trouble. You can feel a touch of tip inertia, but it is completely manageable. It is very slender underfoot with virtually zero lateral leverage: you find the edge instantly.
The main point of discussion—which is not a negative point per se—is that this ski demands precise technique. To drive it on edge and enjoy rock-solid grip as the slope steepens, you have to dose your input, calculate, re-center your weight, and make fine adjustments. The Dynastar Speed Omeglass Master SL does not do everything spontaneously on autopilot. It is aimed at skiers who already have solid technical fundamentals and feel completely at home with carved and skidded turns—especially carved. The crucial element isn’t so much extreme angulation, but fore-aft weight placement. You have to move around quite a bit over the ski to ensure seamless turn continuity across certain arc shapes, particularly when carving on steep terrain.
On rolling, undulating pistes, the Dynastar Speed Omeglass Master SL is thoroughly enjoyable, laying down turns effortlessly—it is downright imperial, allowing you to charge extremely fast. It is much easier to open up and lengthen the radius than to tighten it. Perhaps this ski, without the race plate, would be even better.
A high-performing piste ski that requires fine-tuned piloting to unlock its full potential. A gorgeous race-derived construction aimed at technical skiers who aren’t afraid of speed.
