ElanPrimetime 33

FIRST

We enjoyed this Elan piste ski designed for short turns, which we awarded with a First prize.

This Elan Primetime 33 stays true to the brand’s decades-long work on ski asymmetry. You’ll find a right ski and a left ski with different sidewall thicknesses.

Of course, as is customary in our tests, we took great pleasure in skiing these Elan Primetime 33… reversed. Does it work or not? Can you feel the effect of the asymmetry?

The difference is subtle, but when skiing in reverse position, you notice a less stable, less directive ski, and therefore less solid underfoot, especially on hard snow. It’s therefore better to ski it correctly, right ski to the right and left ski to the left. That’s settled.

Skied correctly, you benefit from a solid sidewall throughout its length. The edge length is well present but not bothersome. The entries into curves are easy. The tapered part of the skis is more forgiving.

These Elan Primetime 33 are undoubtedly the skis that had the best glide on wet snow of all these tests: they’re rockets.

The Elan Primetime 33 are highly carved, intended for short turns. They enter curves very quickly, they carve very strongly. The tip is generously sized. It has a very nice design with a very good tip protector that doesn’t catch.

The Elan Primetime 33 is a relatively stable ski, very pressed, with good grip. It rolls through the curve without problem. You can really throw your feet far away in short carved turns: that’s its program.

Longer turns, however, are a bit more complicated as it tends to always oversteer. It’s very friendly when you’re within its radius, a bit less so when you want to change the curve radius.

When it’s on its radius, especially on steep slopes, it’s a bit more complicated to make it change radius. It’s not a ski with great versatility, but it’s comfortable in its program. It’s carefully crafted.

A very good piste ski, grippy but not dominant for short turn sensations. First Award.
