Please note, this is an exceptional jacket for cycling, for when it’s wet or coming back in the rain. Its main quality is its very high protection level against water. We even dare to say that the Gore-Wear Shakedry™ series is undoubtedly even more waterproof than “traditional” multi-layered constructions whose outer fabric always ends up soaking up the water and spreading out the moisture. To really showcase the design, the C7 Gore-Tex Shakedry™ Stretch exterior appearance reminds us of oilskins. At Columbia (http://www.test4outside.com/produit/columbia-outdry-ex-eco/), there is another formidable material in terms of waterproofing (but no products dedicated to cycling).
So, this GORE® WEAR C7 Gore-Tex Shakedry™ Stretch is weatherproof and for us we believe it is billed as the only waterproof cycling jacket (there are others in the Gore Wear range). In terms of breathability, there is no miracle expected, it remains as always: you mustn’t get too hot otherwise you will sweat, unless you really remove under layers. In short, this jacket is a joy when it’s windy and rainy.
It has an exceptional construction, the panels fit with remarkable precision: nothing sticks out, not a seam is askew. Gore-Wear has precision details to the finishes. The design is very technical, with rounded sleeve ends for comfort, a really comfortable collar, a protected lower back, a zip slider that is easy to grab with cold fingers or gloves on (ditto for the zipped back pocket).
There are stretch panels under the wrists, at the waist and shoulders. Movements are never blocked. On the other hand, very important note: the GORE® WEAR C7 Gore-Tex Shakedry™ Stretch sizes small. Of course, this type of jacket must be a snug fit for aerodynamic reasons, but we recommend taking the size above, especially if you have broad shoulders.
The fabric makes a slight noise and is comfortable even if you wear it against bare skin. It weighs 160 grams, which is pretty good considering its high protective power.
With its thicker and ribbed stretch panels, you wonder if the GORE® WEAR C7 Gore-Tex Shakedry™ Stretch will compact easily. It slips into the (expandable) pocket on the back. You have a small 10-cm long package and not very thick. So long as you choose your correct size GORE® WEAR C7 Gore-Tex Shakedry™, you discover an amazingly waterproof jacket, an absolute must for rides in the rain. The fabrication quality is exceptional, with a justifiable a high price. This jacket logically wins the FIRST Award.
