This ski that is a perfect example of the Super Shape range, designed for the technically confident and physically fit. On paper the Super Shape Rally has a short carve zone but on test it was pretty average. The range of the radius is complex, as it is in the whole SS range. You need power and aggressiveness to incite the turn (or you need weight), coupled with expertise.
This ski has character so you need to be on the ball at all times. You can feel the weight and inertia of the tip, the Head designers have not been lax with the materials, it’s super tough and you get what you pay for. Steering and carving from arc-to-arc is smooth but needs concentration. The angle needs a bit of practice to get the full benefit out of the ski otherwise it stays mono track. We did notice how stiff it was under foot with good energy at the heel. The forefoot just before the tip of the ski is also rigid which therefore removes a bit of fluidity.
To achieve a smooth turn you need to force it into one type of curve. They are beautifully crafted skis with superb machined metal tips. The top sheet is elegant and breathes quality. On ice it grips astonishingly well enabling a lot of angulation. The structure has no filtering qualities, it’s rude and bare with direct sensations like driving a Formula 1 car. It’s a ski for expert skiers who have technical skills to exploit it and the physical fitness to keep up with it. This ski is not for wimps!
