The Hoka Bondi 9 features an impressive stack height (it gains 2 millimeters compared to the Bondi 8), making the runner feel quite elevated… One might wonder how lateral stability will be managed. The quality of the foam and the design of the Hoka Bondi 9 greatly minimize any lateral instability. It’s not bothersome at all. However, we still wonder about the need for such height. Is it for the material stack?
The feel during the run is good. The shoe transitions smoothly, offering a good flow. There’s no noticeable forward tilt like you get with some shoes featuring a pronounced rocker. It’s worth noting that the Hoka Bondi 9 isn’t designed for racing. It’s a very comfortable shoe for everyday runs, meant for enjoyment.
Cushioning is present and well-distributed across the forefoot and heel. The cushioning isn’t overdone, contrary to what the oversized sole might suggest. The sole isn’t overly soft, allowing the runner to feel the road and provide quality foot strikes.
Foot hold is good, and the mesh of the Hoka Bondi 9 is breathable. The construction is meticulous, with high-quality materials. The lacing is firm and stays in place without loosening.
A very high road shoe with cushioning that is present throughout the foot but well-balanced. Ideal for daily running in complete comfort.
