We tested another fleece from the same brand, the Houdini Houdi Polartec Power Air. With the Houdini Mono Air Houdi jacket, the Swedish brand is up front about the design and manufacture of their product. The main material is Polartec Power Air Lightweight made from recycled and recyclable polyester. It prevents microfibers from spreading into the environment during washing or simply during the Houdini Mono Air Houdi’s daily use.
How does the Houdini Mono Air Houdi behave in the test? We found the same feeling as the Houdini Houdi Polartec Power Air. Except that the outer fabric is not as soft and more resistant to abrasion, such as friction from backpack shoulder straps or the risk of getting torn on thorns or spikey objects. The inside of the jacket is very cozy.
In terms of heat, the efficiency is practically the same, maybe slightly lower. It is a useful thermal layer for many activities such as skiing, ski touring, trekking, climbing, etc. It isn’t the lightest on the market in this category. It weighed at 550g in size S.
The fabric is not windproof, but it does protect you from a light breeze and its slight water repellency is enough that you don’t have to resort to grabbing a protective jacket immediately.
The stretch was greatly appreciated because it wasn’t too stretchy yet respects movements without the fabric becoming misshapen over time.
The snug fit design is beautiful, so you can wear the Houdini Mono Air Houdi in the city or in the countryside.
The hood is really well designed because envelops your head perfectly without hindering side vision and is really warm. The two side adjustments (are they really necessary?) are well designed, the excess elastic cords remain inside the jacket and therefore do not whip you in the face. The neck protection is perfect.
The central dual zip slides well. At the cuffs, the thumbholes are both strong and comfortable. Your hands are well protected while maintaining finger dexterity.
The Houdini Mono Air Houdi offers environmentally friendly design and manufacture. We appreciated the fit, the quality of the Polartec Power Air Lightweight, and its durability. Only its weight could be a limiting factor for activities where weight is a premium.
