The Kästle ZX108 may seem unassuming at first glance… but don’t be fooled. Despite its seemingly soft flex, from tip to tail, it’s actually a powerful freeride ski that carves high-speed turns in deep snow with ease and confidence! A true delight! You won’t know whether you’re crushing through the snow or simply floating over it, but one thing’s for sure: you’ll reach the bottom of the slopes with a smile, a rush of speed, and a pocket full of sensations. Like most Kästle skis, it exudes a sense of calm and control.
Its performance is, of course, enhanced by its width underfoot, but it’s not just that. The tip design is sharp and precise. You might think the Kästle ZX108 would benefit from a slightly higher tip rise, even in the tail. In any case, this ski lets you go incredibly fast without fear.
Off-piste, it shines when driven from the rear, with a slight focus on the tail. It slices, it cuts, it makes trenches in the snow—nothing can stand in its way.
The more challenging part comes when you’re on hard snow and moving at lower speeds: you feel the ski’s width, and especially the long edges. Transitioning from a skid to a carve can be tricky, and it’s easy to make edge mistakes. The solution? In an upright stance, you need to increase your speed, dive into the slope, and immediately engage the knee. Angulation is key. Once you’re on edge, the ski takes you into the turn and accelerates. If you stay upright, the ski will go straight. So, you need to work the Kästle ZX108 with the tip, making sure to engage the edge with plenty of angle.
On the ascent, the Kästle ZX108 is fairly heavy, but on snow, it offers very little inertia. The edge wraps around the tip, the glide is efficient, and it has a dampened tail. Its topsheet is very durable and marks very little. It’s a beautifully crafted ski, with a “Keith Haring”-style design.
This Kästle ZX108 is not for everyone. Compared to some Dynastar or Rossignol freeride skis, it lacks that instinctive pivoting ease. The Kästle ZX108 has a long, quite grounded edge. It wants to cut through, accelerate, and go faster without assisted steering. It excels in straight-line descents. We’ve awarded it a Core Award.
