Designed for winter activities, the Millet Evole Down 700 jacket is suitable for cold conditions and has proven its effectiveness during our ski touring and ice climbing outings. We didn’t go easy on it.
This jacket stands out for its classic cut and slightly elongated back, which protects the lower back. Additionally, it is very soft, light, and compressible, making it easy to pack into a backpack.
For better breathability and quick drying, 100% recycled Repreve synthetic insulation is strategically placed in areas subject to friction and moisture, such as the sides and armpits. The rest of the jacket is filled with hydrophobic 90/10 duck down, certified Responsible Down Standard, with a 700 cuin fill power, ensuring warmth and compressibility even in wet conditions.
Between -10°C and -15°C, the Millet Evole Down 700 provides sufficient thermal protection when moving, even with just a base layer. However, prolonged inactivity requires additional insulation (layers, Gore-Tex, for example), as it reaches its limits in this configuration.
The following phrase and sensation were most commonly reported by our testers: “You really feel like you’re wrapped in a nice, warm duvet.”
We found the high collar very comfortable and pleasant. Once the front zip is closed, you feel well enveloped and protected from the elements. With or without a helmet, the hood is also well-encompassing, with an effective elastic edge. The front zip slides perfectly.
The hydrophobic treatment of the down is a valuable asset in humid conditions (limited), as it allows the jacket to maintain its insulating properties. However, in heavy rain, this treatment reaches its limits, and the jacket may lose some of its effectiveness.
The Millet Evole Down 700 is designed to keep you warm, and it does so successfully. It is evident that during intense ascents, sweat is significant, like being in a sauna. However, at temperatures between -5°C and -15°C, we did not experience any issues with sweating or overheating due to the jacket.
The Millet Evole Down 700 is sufficiently compressible. It packs into the left front pocket, forming a long cylinder. Since the storage pocket is narrow and long, you need to press on the ends to fully insert the jacket. The pocket is not stretchable, so it’s important to take the time to pack the jacket properly. The space is optimized. The compressed volume-to-weight ratio is impressive.
The price of the Millet Evole Down 700 is justified by the quality of the materials and technologies used. After two months of use, it has not lost any volume or properties. A few feathers have escaped, which is normal. The zippers are sturdy, and the outer fabric (reinforced ripstop) is very durable.
Desired improvements: a more stretchable storage pocket and an adjustable cord for the hood.
This Millet Evole Down 700 jacket, designed for harsh winter conditions, offers optimal thermal performance for mountain activities such as hiking and mountaineering. Its advanced technical features, including efficient insulation and cold protection, guarantee warmth and comfort. Ideal for mountain adventures, it allows you to stay warm and protected even in tough conditions. At the bottom of the bag, it has become indispensable.
With its hybrid down-synthetic design (407g in size M), this jacket is remarkably light, compressible, and compact. We appreciated its comfort, especially the protective high collar, the fitted hood, and the large zippered pockets. However, for those who usually wear size M, the fit may feel a bit tight. Trying it on is recommended, especially depending on the intended activity.
