Muse M-238 BC

The Muse M-238 BC wireless headset belongs to the family of bone conduction headphones. It complies with the IPX8 standard, meaning it can be immersed in fresh water up to 1.5 meters deep for a maximum of 30 minutes. Taken literally, this means the Muse M-238 BC can only be used occasionally for swimming, not for regular or prolonged underwater sessions.

This is a budget-friendly model, making it an attractive alternative to brands like Shokz, which are generally more expensive. Within this affordable price range, the Muse M-238 BC offers a lot of value.

Let’s start with connectivity — pairing with a smartphone is nearly instantaneous. Perfect. Music playback starts immediately, and taking phone calls is smooth and easy. The headset also includes 4 GB of built-in storage for standalone use. However, transferring music files from a Mac proved somewhat unreliable — possibly due to macOS compatibility or connection issues — so we mainly used it in Bluetooth mode with our smartphone.

The fit is excellent, ideal for running sessions. The Muse M-238 BC is sweat-resistant, easy to clean, and at just 28 grams, it feels weightless during activity.

Controls are located on the right earpiece and are simple to use, although those with larger fingers may find it tricky to press the three buttons precisely.

Then comes the crucial question: sound quality. In this regard, the Muse M-238 BC performs on par with most bone conduction devices. Its main strength lies in its openness to ambient sounds, which enhances safety by allowing you to stay aware of your surroundings (traffic, other runners, dogs, etc.). The overall sound rendering is basic — perfectly fine for workouts or casual listening, but not for audiophiles. Bass and treble are fairly average, and the full range of a track isn’t fully reproduced.

Ultimately, the Muse M-238 BC should be appreciated for what it is: a lightweight, practical, easy-to-use, and affordable bone conduction headset. For running, it does its job perfectly. And truth be told, the sound quality gap between this model and more expensive competitors is very small.

Battery life is rated at six hours, with a full charge taking around two hours. The headset charges via a dedicated USB cable and comes with a clear printed user manual.
