Oakley MOD 5 Mips

We tested the Oakley MOD 5 Mips helmet with the Oakley Fall Line L goggles. This test also counts as a long test as we used it for weeks on end on the snow.

This Oakley MOD 5 is fitted with Mips technology, which is why the price is above 40 euros compared with the classic MOD 5.

This Oakley MOD 5 Mips helmet is overall a very good lightweight and comfortable helmet.

Let’s look at what annoyed us, we ordered it in white and after a few weeks of usage, the area just above the forehead where you put your goggles when your’e not wearing them, turned yellow very quickly. Aging accelerates and so does the look. It’s a real shame because it’s well designed. The lateral volume is restrained, the helmet is quite fluid and snig fitting. At the rear the ventilation is treated like a racing car’s: both integrated in the structure and aggressive.

This Oakley MOD 5 Mips has the Boa system, ultra-performant and delicate in the exerted pressure, and well spread. You can use it with gloves on. The Oakley MOD 5 Mips doesn’t make any squeaky noises, which is often the case with Mips. When the air vents are open you can sometimes have aerodynamic noises. In really cold weather your ears can suffer a little from the cold, but the Oakley MOD 5 Mips fully respect hearing: guaranteeing safety on the roads.

The Oakley MOD 5 Mips’s chin strap is very easy and quick to handle thanks to the magnetic closure that all our testers adored. On the other hand, the fabric protection that covers the chin strap has thick stitching, if it touches your neck it becomes uncomfortable.

You can manage the ventilation using a little slider that opens and closes the 4 vents on top of the head. This slider isn’t really easy to find and handle with gloves on.

We really appreciated wearing this Oakley MOD 5 Mips helmet because it’s light, attractive, protects you well and compact. You forget you’re wearing it and it is road-safety conscious with respect to hearing.  An excellent product.
