At first glance, the Oakley MOD SNC helmet appears quite basic. Its clean lines and absence of standard earpads are deceptive.
On the snow, you discover a lightweight helmet, tipping our scale at just 360 grams in size M. Well-ventilated—though without an adjustable open/close vent system—the Oakley MOD SNC easily fades into the background once on your head. Its standout feature is the ability to integrate an optional neck gaiter and even an under-helmet layer in the form of a soft fabric cap. Complete with the Oakley logo, this setup provides thermal protection while dialing in an aesthetic that can best be described as freestyle with a backcountry tilt. In short, it quickly makes you want to push your limits on the mountain.
The Oakley MOD SNC integrates Mips technology, which remains completely silent—no unbearable squeaks or creaks to report here. Comfort isn’t the plushiest on the market, as the internal padding is relatively thin. However, when worn with the fabric cap, the Oakley MOD SNC performs very well. The rear fit adjustment dial gets the job done, though it could be a bit more precise and produce a higher-quality tactile click, especially when loosening the helmet. Still, nothing overly bothersome.
The magnetic chinstrap buckle is effective, practical, and easy to operate even with thin gloves on. Note that there is no chin guard padding integrated onto the strap. Our test model featured a sharp-looking matte black finish.
A lightweight helmet supplied with a neck gaiter and a thin cap for both style and thermal insulation. Featuring integrated Mips technology, it stands out as an affordable and versatile helmet option.
