The Patagonia Women’s Nano Puff Jacket is the very definition of a go-anywhere, always-in-the-pack insulation layer — a piece you end up using for just about everything, from alpine missions to daily life.
There’s no radical innovation here, just the smart application of what works. Patagonia sticks with synthetic insulation, choosing PrimaLoft® Gold Insulation Eco (60 g/m², 100% recycled polyester). Unlike natural down, which tends to absorb moisture and takes forever to dry, PrimaLoft delivers consistent warmth even when damp. The Test4outside team has relied on this insulation for years — its sheet construction eliminates cold spots and thermal bridging while keeping warmth uniform.
In cool to cold conditions, the Nano Puff performs exactly as expected. It’s a midlayer or backup piece, not a deep-winter parka — best worn under a shell when the weather turns rough. Warmth is instant, comfort equally so. The cut is classic yet flattering, designed to fit the female body without excess bulk.
The collar doesn’t rise especially high, which makes it easier to layer under hooded fleeces or shells, though a bit more height would improve protection from the wind.
Build quality is unmistakably Patagonia: impeccable stitching, smooth zippers, and clean finishing throughout. Hem drawcords are neatly routed inside the jacket to avoid dangling, while the wrist cuffs use soft elastic that seals comfortably without constricting. The forearm area isn’t overly puffy, allowing clear visibility of your hands when belaying or handling gear — a thoughtful touch. Zipper pulls are easy to grip with gloves, and there’s a backing flap behind the main zip to prevent snags and improve durability.
When stowed in its chest pocket, the Nano Puff weighs just 310 g (10.9 oz) and can be clipped to a harness or pack loop with a carabiner. It compresses easily and regains loft quickly once unpacked.
A hood-less, all-purpose insulated jacket made with recycled PrimaLoft®, the Patagonia Women’s Nano Puff shrugs off moisture, packs small, and stands out for its reliability. A well-crafted, sustainable layer that perfectly embodies Patagonia’s green DNA.
