This is exactly the kind of product we love: an entry- to mid-range jacket at a reasonable price that still delivers solid performance. We’ve even awarded the Protest PRTPontal our Hot Deal Award.
Whether you call it a protective shell or a windbreaker, this jacket is available for under €130. For outdoor enthusiasts who don’t want to break the bank on gear, the Protest PRTPontal is a great option. On top of that, it has enough style to be worn around town, while traveling, or for everyday use.
At this price point, it offers waterproof zippers on both the main front closure and the pockets. The underarm vents are covered with protective flaps. In rainy conditions, the PRTPontal stays waterproof for a solid amount of time—thanks to taped seams and effective materials. If you’re exposed to heavy rain for too long, the jacket does start to show its limits, but it’s more than capable of handling typical wet weather.
Wind protection is excellent. The high collar and well-designed hood—which adjusts at three points—offer effective coverage. The waist can be cinched with two adjustment points, and the cut allows enough room for layering, like a fleece underneath. The sleeve cuffs are adjustable with velcro straps, and a large GPS watch fits comfortably underneath.
The Protest PRTPontal is lightweight and packable. The fabric has a slight stretch to it, which follows your movements nicely—making it very comfortable to wear. The waterproof zippers are a bit stiff during the first few uses, but they loosen up over time and work smoothly.
We really enjoyed testing this protective jacket. With its excellent price-to-performance ratio, light weight, packability, waterproofing, comfort, and affordability, it’s a smart buy. Test4outside awarded.
