Quechua MH 500, 800 ml

Quechua has a new insulated water bottle; the MH500 with an 800 ml capacity. For the test we hiked with it carrying our daily dose of caffeine inside. First thoughts: it is compact with a flared shape at the base for good stability when you put it on the ground. But due to this shape the grip is not optimal as its diameter is quite wide, even if at the bottom there is a band which improves the grip a little. You can still easily slide it into your backpack. It is made of stainless steel and light in terms of its capacity compared to classic insulated water bottles.

It’s easy to fill due to the wide opening filling, but make sure you close properly as the screwing amplitude is not very deep, barely even a full turn, so make sure it’s screwed up tightly so you don’t find coffee all over the bottom of your bag, it could be annoying!

To pour, it’s easy to open with one hand as there’s a small button to press, and which can be locked by sliding it upwards to prevent it accidentally opening. The cap has an integrated filter, practical for measuring the flow, filtering tea leaves, and a pouring spout, very handy for cups. If you want to drink straight from the neck, you just need to turn it to drink from the side or unscrew the stopper. The stopper has a handle for carrying or hanging or securing it to a bag.

The Quechua MH500 has good thermal qualities, at the end of the day, after 7 hours, coffee is still hot, and 24 hours later it was still lukewarm. Solvent-free paint, without Bisphenol A, less packaging, and produced in a 100% renewable-energy factory. Quechua is quite rightly playing its environmental protection card.

The Quechua MH500 thermal flask is excellent value for money at 15 euros. OK, its ergonomics aren’t spot on, and you’d need to see in the long term how the mechanical bits wear, but at this price you can’t be that picky. A good thermal flask for a day-hike or for everyday use in the office or out and about.
