This is a very practical travel bag. It has the correct dimensions to be accepted as hand luggage on flights, but most notably it is the fruits of a collaboration between Quicksilver and Pacsafe; the specialist anti-theft brand.
Using and testing this bag we couldn’t help thinking of a journalist colleague who, one day in Italy, in the train, had his computer stolen from his bag when he nodded off. And in his computer was the manuscript of his forthcoming book…
This misadventure would not have taken place with the Quicksilver Pacsafe. This bag has two levels of security to prevent theft. The first consists of a clever system that enables you to solidarize the two zips of the central closure to be able to slide the integrated padlock through. This operation is done in the blink of an eye, therefore making it impossible to access the interior of the Pacsafe.
The other security measure concerns the possibility of attaching the bag to a post or any other object fixed to the ground. You only have to open the padlock situated at the end of one of the carrying handles, make a loop around the fixed object and then close it again.
The straps are constructed from Dyneema Slashguard, a metal fiber interlaced with Dyneema, even using a cutter you would have trouble getting through it.
This bag enables you to travel more serenely in exposed areas, or during those moments where you are lacking a bit of attention, as we all have, in airports, on the bus or in the street sometimes. There is a special compartment for your laptop which also keeps it safer.
We also used the Quiksilver Pacsafe for our triathlon and swimming activities. The bag has a removeable waterproof pocket so you can slide a damp wetsuit, swimming costume, towel or any sweaty clothes inside.
You have all the classic compression straps, zipped pockets, key chain, mesh pockets, etc.
In terms of carrying fabric you quickly realize that it isn’t a ‘backpack’: comfort is limited for long walks, especially if the bag is full (volume 40L). The rear of the backpack is flat and doesn’t follow the morphology of your spine. The shoulder straps are fairly comfortable and the waist strap works well to keep the pack stable.
The Quiksilver Pacsafe isn’t heavy empty, and very practical. With two handles you can carry it like a case. A very clever pack for travelling safely, tough and durable. Some photographs have even used it to keep their equipment safe.
