The RAB Khroma Volition Gore-Tex pants, like the jacket of the same name tested here is an extremely convincing product. We also gave it the Test4outside.com FIRST Award.
Like the RAB Khroma Volition Gore-Tex jacket, these ski pants are both a shell and an insulation layer as they are lined with Primaloft Silver (made from recycled plastic bottles). They were initially designed for ski touring, but they are highly recommended for downhill skiing too.
Of course, we appreciated how warm they were, how quickly they dry, their lightness and comfort: the Primaloft is so soft. These RAB pants mean you don’t need to wear layers of technical underwear.
This RAB Khroma Volition Gore-Tex pants have been designed down to the tiniest detail, even the flies have a waterproof zip (brands often ignore this). All the zips slide very well and have a thin cord. The thigh pocket can accommodate a large smartphone or keys (there’s an integrated key ring).
The waist adjustment is very quick and practical (Velcro). The straps are thin, comfortable and stay in place on the shoulders. You can remove them if needed. The large vents are a joy on the climb. It is worth bearing in mind that these are lined pants, so the temperature rises quickly.
The base of the trouser legs is reinforced up very high. It is not Cordura but a Gore-Tex Pro 70D 3 layers.
This RAB Khroma Volition Gore-Tex pants is typically the product you would choose for a heliski trip or simply off-piste, and even on-piste. Warm, technical, very comfortable, well cut, and waterproof, they have everything. A well-deserved FIRST award.
