There’s no doubt, this Rossignol Sender Free 110 is a big machine, very wide for off-piste skiing, at high speeds (if desired). The “air tip” system, which reduces weight in the tip, is truly effective; you don’t feel any inertia at the front of the ski. The test ski had the bindings very centered; we would have preferred them mounted “old-school,” a bit further back.
The Rossignol Sender Free 110 has a lot of rocker, so there’s limited contact with the snow from the edge, hence easy pivoting. Despite its large dimensions, it’s very easy to maneuver, it’s even quite playful. This Rossignol Sender Free 110 offers healthy sensations; we really liked its reactions and especially its ease: you ask, it delivers.
The flex is very progressive, very fluid, it unfolds evenly, without snagging. You can even afford small imbalances; the ski doesn’t give any red flags. The bonus? You keep a reserve of energy underfoot despite the rockered tips: tips that are not at all flighty. They stay in contact with the snow.
To increase lateral angulation, to launch the feet far, of course, you need skill, especially when you want to pilot it on the edge. The leverage is significant due to its width (110 millimeters underfoot).
The tip rise allows the Rossignol Sender Free 110 to go anywhere, to float above powder, to absorb chunks. Its big advantage? Despite its rather aggressive dimensions, the Rossignol Sender Free 110 easily fits into curves; you can change curve radii without too much effort. Even an average-sized skier can bend the ski by leaning forward or backward.
On hard snow, the Rossignol Sender Free 110 has a lot of leverage, so you need to dose and exert yourself a bit. But it remains an excellent freeride ski with a good level of performance that isn’t overpowering. For carving fast and well. First Test award.
