The Salomon Max 12 is the top of the range in the Max Lady line.
It is really for expert skiers who are technically astute and looking for speed and precision. You need to have the capacity to give it dynamism and play with the movement and angulation. It carves majestically, but you need to be dynamic, make it work hard, be the driver.
In long turns you can go very fast but at the end of the turn be well positioned or it ejects if you aren’t centered. You immediately notice the stiff tail. The ski on the whole is undeniably jumpy. In tight turns the Max 12 has a rocker effect which helps initiate the turns really easily. The ski doesn’t vibrate, it stays rock solid.
To win over the tight turns you need to work it hard from above. We tested the 165cm and the girls weighed on average 50kg, and they felt the ski was a little too long. In tight turns it’s a little too stiff meaning you need to put pressure on all the time. It’s a good ski for this level, with a fabulous design and look. We loved it. It costs 700 euros, 100 euros more than the Max 8.
