We spent several months putting the superb Santini Aero Race Short Sleeve Jersey through its paces, with our team of female testers taking care of the testing throughout this period. Designed for both men and women, this jersey proved to be a highly impressive performer.
We tested it in hot weather as well as in milder conditions, including autumn rides, sometimes with a windproof jacket worn over it. Our final ride in the Santini Aero Race Short Sleeve Jersey was a climb up Mont Ventoux.
The close-fitting cut is beautifully designed, creating a second-skin feel without the discomfort of fabric that clings too tightly to the body or sleeves that squeeze the arms. The generously scooped neckline is exceptionally comfortable, and there is no top zip to rub against the skin.
The combination of panels with different textures provides a well-thought-out balance between areas designed for breathability and others that offer slightly greater wind resistance or additional fabric thickness. Our scales recorded a weight of just 130 grams in size M.
The Santini Aero Race Short Sleeve Jersey is made from Polartec Power Dry, a soft-to-the-touch recycled polyester fabric that delivers competitive moisture transfer and sweat regulation. It also dries very quickly. There is, however, one drawback: particular care is needed when washing it, as the fabric tends to retain odours. Santini recommends washing it at 30°C, but is that really enough?
The flatlock seams are barely noticeable, and the overall construction is exceptionally well finished. We particularly liked the wide elasticated hem, which keeps the Santini Aero Race Short Sleeve Jersey securely in place. The sleeves feature raw-cut edges and are also fitted with fine silicone gripper strips to prevent them from riding up. All these thoughtful details make this jersey a top performer that you barely notice once you’re out on the bike.
