Running with this Saucony Endorphin Speed 2, we almost had the fastest sessions of the season. However, the times are still below some other shoes with a carbon plate, in particular the Hoka One One Bondi X but quite close.
Let’s start with what we like least about this Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 and then focus on its many qualities. Right from the start, there isn’t much lateral balance, especially at the heel. The shoe rolls until the middle. The rear is narrow and the side foam on the sole doesn’t support you much. Obviously, this Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 is a 100% road shoe, but you have to be careful with your ankles on slopes and joints in the tarmac. Watch out, the sole is high. This shoe is best used forefoot where it rebounds with soft support under the metatarsals. Heel-strike positioning becomes imprecise.
This Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 is like a bicycle, at lower speeds it loses its equilibrium, faster speeds it becomes very performant.
We really liked it on training sessions where its relationship between comfort and performance works wonders. Make no mistake, even though it is listed as having less performance than its big sister the Saucony Endorphin Pro (carbon plate), the Speed 2 allows you to go fast on a half marathon or even on a full marathon.
If your stride deteriorates then the cushioning takes care of your stride. We loved the filtration and the spring from the nylon plate, which is less reactive but more tolerant than the carbon one. The Saucony Shift model is listed below the Saucony Endorphin Speed 2.
The grip is what you would expect for a road running shoe. The laces stay in place: you don’t necessarily need to tie a double knot. The heel is held comfortably and relatively precisely. The forefoot remains “lively” in a toe box which also combines precision and comfort.
We like the finish, the fifth silver color on the heel and tongue.
The Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 is a shoe intended for rapid sessions, on an experienced runner who can limit the heel strike phases. Less responsive than the models kitted with carbon plates, the Speed 2 is a combination of 40% smoothness and 60% performance.
