Featuring sidecuts of 119-85-109 mm with a stated 15-meter turn radius in the 174 cm length, the Scott Sea 85immediately catches the eye with its refreshing aesthetic: a green and black lagoon-transparency graphic style, embellished with marine motifs that break away from traditional linear designs. But structurally, it is primarily distinguished by its very low, minimal, and tapered tip profile.
On snow, this specific profile dictates the ski’s behavior. When initiating a turn flat on piste, do not rely on the automatic assistance of a modern tip that pulls you into the arc the moment you pressure the front—if you try to engage purely from the front, the ski refuses assistance and tends to track straight. To make it turn, it needs to be piloted with a traditional approach, pivoting flat or via drifted/skidded transitions. The Scott Sea 85 therefore requires a minimum of speed to establish its edge hold.
Once locked into a carved turn on blue runs or moderately rolling terrain, it delivers a very smooth, enjoyable ride along its natural radius (which in reality feels significantly longer than the advertised 15 meters). However, as soon as the slope gets steep or you try to shorten the radius at high speed, handling becomes trickier: forcing the flex requires serious physical presence, otherwise you quickly accumulate speed and lose continuity of edge grip.
Where the Scott Sea 85 excels without a shadow of a doubt is in straight-line tracking and off-piste terrain. Free from an oversized, bulky tip, it boasts royal stability and never wanders in long runouts. The Scott Sea 85 handles spring slush or light side-country powder with effortless ease. Best of all, its damping is top-tier: the ski offers excellent glide, zero chatter, and an impressively quiet, silent ride.
On the construction front, the underfoot structure is sturdy and handles heavy edge angles on hardpack with total confidence—provided you have the technical skill. A special shout-out goes to the elastomer tail protector, which is fantastic for protecting the structure and preventing skis from crossing or catching. Accessible pricing.
A sound, reliable, and secure ski with a wonderfully quiet temperament. While it isn’t particularly “playful” on-piste for carved turns for skiers in search of sheer liveliness, it offers superb versatility for relaxed cruisers and serves as an excellent gateway into close-to-home off-piste terrain.
