The Sidas Ski Expert socks are positioned as a more traditional model, with a thicker construction compared to other alternatives like, for example, the Compressport Ski Mountaineering. For us, the Sidas Ski Expert are more oriented towards “leisure skiing” use. They stand out for their comfort and cushioning but have several limitations in terms of performance and ergonomics. They have the advantage of being made from 98% recycled fibers and are offered at a very affordable price.
Aside from the price, the strengths of the Sidas Ski Expert socks include immediate comfort and durability. The material is soft and pleasant. Their thickness provides good separation between the foot and the ski boot shell, particularly around the tibial crest.
After many washes, we noticed no deterioration in the Sidas Ski Expert socks: they are durable!
However, the Sidas Ski Expert socks have an imperfect fit: they gradually slide down at the calf, which becomes bothersome as the day goes on. This phenomenon is likely dependent on individual morphology, so it’s worth checking. Slim calves are less well-suited than very muscular calves.
They lack precision, being too thick for competition use or for skiers who need a precise fit inside their boots.
Their thermal insulation is disappointing: despite their thickness, they do not provide a real sense of warmth in very cold temperatures (-10°C). The breathability is average: they tend to retain moisture, which can be uncomfortable during prolonged use. We noticed the development of odors, so they need to be washed regularly.
Verdict:
The Sidas Ski Expert socks are more suitable for occasional skiers than for demanding athletes. Their initial comfort is appreciated, but their fit and thermal insulation leave room for improvement, making them less suitable for intensive use or very cold conditions. The price, however, is very affordable.
