Trab Maestro. 2

The Trab Maestro.2 is a 100% touring ski that feels like it’s impressively light. Yet, when you see the listed weight, it isn’t actually an ultra-lightweight ski: 1461g for 171 cm. At any rate, it is very pleasant, you can’t feel it underfoot.

Its active edge is pretty long and contributes to a good grip on the uphill. Its long radius of 22 meters takes you far if you drive it on the edge (it isn’t in its programme). Fortunately, these wide turns can be modified by adjusting balance and/or angulation.  Sequencing in forests necessitates rapid pivoting, no problem! The tip lift is pretty good and you don’t get taken by surprise by mounds of snow.

Immediately in the first downhill we felt the flighty feeling of the Trab Maestro.2. It reverberates quite a bit in your legs. The front section of the ski deforms a lot in mounds of snow. You need to ski with pressure on the front of your boots otherwise the ski bounces, it skips off in all directions and the skis can cross. On soft snow, its behavior is acceptable, even pleasant, especially if you have an upright attitude. If you skid/smudge turns it pivots very easily. On any end of season chop it is really pleasant.

However, a good skier who is looking for fluidity, pressure, clean turns, the Trab Maestro.2 is not for you. It has some harder flex zones in parts of the ski, which causes les fluidity. A strong skier who skis fast and puts more pressure on it will deform the ski too much. Remember this Trab Maestro.2 is a light ski, not designed for heavy-built skiers.

The Trab Maestro.2 has good grip on hard snow. It could be good on steep slopes, and short gullies. It’s a classic touring ski with a “lightweight” feeling. A ski for the average ski tourer who prefers the uphill a little more than the downhill.
