Trab Magico 2

The Trab Magico 2 is a light ski, just over one kilo. On the snow, it is flighty, you must force down at the front to not be taken by surprise. The only problem is if you put too much pressure on it, due to the construction in this zone the ski oversteers, and you lose control.

You should ski it with pressure on the boot heel. You then find a fairly hard area that allows you to advance serenely. In this configuration you can accelerate. If you ski in an upright, centered or even forward attitude, the Trab Magico 2 forces the skier to slow down and stay aware. The tip lift is not very present, in chop you need to rely on your thighs to control and pass over it and prevent the skis from crossing. The Völkl, the Kästle, or the Atomic Backland do much better than this one.

Yes sure, the Trab Magico 2 is light and has no inertia at all. In the climb, it is a real pleasure, it has a fairly straight edge length, which provides good grip on cross slopes.

On the descent, what we don’t like about the Trab Magico 2 is its “propeller” effect. It grips, it releases, typically a sign of poorly adjusted flex and stiffness. The ski may be light but the flex got lost in the process. The edge length doesn’t work effectively. You only have segments that grip on this ski.

In a upright stance, skidding turn initiations in soft snow work. Nothing terribly exciting. A ski tourer with a backpack can exploit it. A real skier is hungry for more because it’s designed for climbing but doesn’t glide very well. Times have changed, brands have now succeeded in offering skis that are both very light (around one kilo) and skiable. Fiber braiding has made its way on the scene.

Trab Magico 2’s perceived quality: could be better around the colors’ edges, there are drips. A any rate, it isn’t in accordance with its price (very high), which caresses a thousand euros. A classic ski tourer can be fulfilled, but not a real skier. By prioritizing weight at all costs, Trab has forgotten about skiability.
