ScottExplorair 92 LT

The Scott Explorair 92 LT focuses on lightness without going into the ultra-light category. It offers a substantial width (92mm) with controlled weight, allowing it to handle a variety of conditions. It features a moderately pronounced rocker, and the tip does its job well.

The edge length on this ski is significant, providing good stability and solid contact with the slope. This edge stability is present throughout the ski’s movements and along the entire curve.

The downside concerns the radius, which is hard to reduce, especially when trying to tighten the turn or even bring the ski back uphill, such as on steep terrain. The solution is to increase the edge angle, allowing for a more carved turn on hard snow. You need to manage your pressure carefully and avoid overloading the front or the back of the ski. In flexion, on the edge, the Scott Explorair 92 LT tightens the radius.

Drifting is easy. Stability is solid in terrain with bumps, tracked snow, though the tip isn’t the most fluid in these conditions. Here, we start to see the limits of the ski’s lightness. The tail is precise, and the grip across the entire edge is reassuring. You can tackle steep terrain without issues, thanks to its stability and security when shifting weight during jump turns. However, precision is key—this ski doesn’t forgive all mistakes and doesn’t allow for carelessness. With attention to detail, it excels in all types of terrain.

In deep snow, it’s pleasant and secure, handling well. Keep in mind its lighter weight, which means you can’t expect the same internal sophistication as skis that focus on torsional stiffness.

The design is versatile. Glide is decent. Avoid sizing down too much, as going up by even five centimeters can make it less demanding in terms of technique from the skier.

On the ascent, you’ll appreciate the edge security, its reduced weight, and the edge length. It’s an enjoyable ski.

A wide, versatile ski, pleasant on the ascent, and very secure.
