We tested these Vertical Mythic MP + pants with the jacket of the same name. The jacket is designed more for free hiking or even downhill skiing than the pants, which are clearly oriented to hiking due to their very snug-fitting design. On the Vertical MP + jacket, you even have the traditional forearm pocket for your ski pass and the internal mesh pocket for goggles. The pants and their salopettes bib, are very snug fitting and are suitable for ski mountaineering.
You will immediately notice the snug-fitting design, so choose your size carefully, if you have muscly thighs, the space isn’t very much here at all.
The Vertical Mythic MP + pants rise up high up the chest and back providing maximum protection. We liked the stretchy part that provides easy movement: there is no pressure at the waistband. The breast pocket is very practical (is it really necessary that it has a waterproof zip?). As long as you choose the size of the Vertical Mythic MP + pants, you can use the two thigh pockets that have waterproof zips (justified here).
There’s great and practical side ventilation. You wonder if maybe the waterproof zip should’ve stopped above the knee to avoid it creasing when you bend.
The fabric is tough and waterproof. We liked the fact it was stretchy. Breathability is standard for this type of product. The gaiters go over the boots and provide water resistance. The protection against ski edges is effective and not stiff.
The Vertical Mythic MP + pants are clearly geared towards ski mountaineering. With them, you can embark on any technical routes. They are stretchy, waterproof and tough. Be careful to choose the right size.
