WAA ULTRA SHORT

We ran a large part of the summer in these shorts – WAA Ultra. Which are overall very nice to wear.

They are in two layers: skin tight shorts under and a lightweight over short (65g) on top for the look. You can wear one without the other but it’s a shame not to have the full look.

The outer short is the best point about this outfit, we very much liked the lightness and breathability of it. Its material moves with the action even long strides. The waistline has two access points to the pockets in the inner short.

The reflective spots on either side of the shorts and top of the back are very good. The back zipped pocket is a little small – we put car keys in there and they were uncomfortable and heavy – maybe room for a 10 euro note for a taxi… Overall well-finished, although from time to time some finishing is dubious.

We liked the inner short less. WAA put bands to prevent the shorts from moving upwards on the thighs: which are cold against the skin when putting them on, and you can feel them the whole time. The tight feeling is not pleasant and slight sweating occurs in these areas too. But, they don’t budge!

For the rest of the design, they are comfortable, flat stitching is quickly forgotten about. No rubbing anywhere, between the thighs for example, although NB: we didn’t run an ultra in them. The waistband is very comfortable and is also forgotten when running. On either side of the thighs there’s a pocket to put a gel, or cereal bar. Be careful some packaging can be uncomfortable here – gel tube corners etc.

The thighs are equipped with what WAA call Steadytape – which is designed to hold your quads, a form of compression. Aesthetically the look is great, but we didn’t really feel any effects of the support.

The entire outfit resists smells, and both layers wash well.

The WAA Ultra Short is a nice product and efficient. Comfortable around the waist, stretchy fabric that marries well to your movements. Both layers complement each other and allow good breathability and fast drying. They aren’t compression shorts in the full term – just slightly supportive. The only down point for us were the tight elastic around the base of the thighs.
