Dynafit Ultra Pro

Dynafit appeared a few years ago on the trail scene, made a few mistakes and are now in the running along with the best of them.

The Ultra Pro nears excellence, just a few blips to sort out to be amongst the top runners.

The sole: with its ultra-powerful grip in all eventualities. The Vibram® Megagrip is unbeatable performance; mud, rocks, roots, you name it! Superb feeling in the climbs and the downhill pass in complete confidence. The lugs don’t hang on to mud, maybe a few little stones can get trapped but that makes no difference.

The sole also filters the lumps and bumps and gnarliness of the terrain. The area under the fore foot is well protected. The cushioning is well dosed for an ultra-shoe, not too soft, and doesn’t lose energy or stability. The cushioning seems spread out in the fore foot, we wonder if there really is cushioning or if it’s down to the lugs …?

They have an 8mm drop and are stable, like the Salomon Slab Ultra (https://www.test4outside.com/en/produit/salomon-slab-ultra/) yet the torsional rigidity in the Dynafit is higher.

The Dynafit has more mass at the front of the shoe so slightly heavier than the Slab Ultra. We think that the stone guard could be better integrated and lighter. The heel arch is also a little heavy, for a performance that is arguable. The heel hold has enough foam to compensate a little for the pinching effect but this area could be improved.

We appreciated how comfortable these shoes were for long distance. The foam is well dispatched, even the tongue is nice and squidgy. The foot envelopment is good without pressure points. The toe box is ample, so you lose a little precision compared with the Salomon.

But, the automatic lacing block at Dynafit is better than Salomon, it slides better and blocks and unblocks more easily; but the laces slide badly, and the tension is held mainly on the upper side of the foot: you have to pull the laces from the front of the foot near the toes, which isn’t easy, the laces are narrow and rounded. Storing the surplus lace is done ok. Putting on the Dynafit is easy the laces undo enough to have plenty of space to get your foot in.

They have been carefully made, the accent is on durability, with reinforcements, that add a little weight but are there for a good reason.

The Dynafit Ultra Pro is a good shoe that nears excellence. You can be confident in an ultra-distance or just simply out for the day in the mountains, on any terrain including the most hostile.
