For 70 euros, Specialized offers an “urban” helmet equipped with a safety light at the rear of the head.
The Specialized Centro Led helmet ticks all the right boxes. Of course, its standout feature is the lighting system, which can be activated in continuous mode (red light) or in alternate mode. The system is incredibly easy to use: a press on the lamp switches between modes or turns it off. It is powered by a CR2032 flat battery, which needs regular replacement if you ride frequently at night, as there’s no way to recharge it. However, this battery helps keep the weight of the helmet down, as it is very lightweight.
This is indeed one of the strengths of the Specialized Centro Led: it feels barely noticeable on the head due to its minimal weight and well-designed comfort pads. The rear adjustment system is also very effective. The chin strap is easy to buckle and adjust. Notably, the Specialized Centro Led is equipped with MIPS technology.
Highly ventilated, the Specialized Centro Led can be secured by passing a U-lock through the rear of the helmet.
We appreciate the design and quality of construction. The removable visor is a nice touch.
Additionally, the helmet is equipped with the discreet and lightweight ANGi crash sensor. The accelerometer triggers an alarm in the event of a crash, notifying emergency contacts via SMS and/or email through the Specialized Ride app. To ensure the system works, you need to register, have the app running, and ensure the sensor battery is good. It can be configured to signal the start and end of a ride, activate intermediate alerts during the ride, and a slight shake before the journey activates the sensor.
A very good helmet for daily urban use, but not limited to it. With its lighting and crash sensor, it emphasizes safety. It’s also comfortable and provides good head retention, all at a moderate price. It has earned the First TEST4OUTSIDE.COM award.
