After the legendary Kästle MX88, adorned with the First award, we were able to test a variation of this ski, the Kästle MX75.
Even though Kästle presents it as an all-mountain ski, with 75 millimeters underfoot, it’s not very comfortable off-piste or even on the edges of the groomers.
But beware, this Kästle MX75 is no ordinary ski; it has a magnificent skiable quality that appeals to very skilled skiers. We find the excellent turning quality of the Kästle MX88, with its very powerful grip, smooth rolling, and ultra-sound performance. A ski that cuts through the snow with a bit more ease for the MX75 because, being narrower, it’s lighter on the feet.
The Kästle MX75 naturally gets onto the edge and takes the skier into a world of sensations. The downside? Coming out of the carved turn requires attention and very good reflexes to switch to a sliding turn. It’s an ultra-enthusiastic carving machine.
The skier’s positioning doesn’t become a headache with the Kästle MX75, even if there’s a slight rear imbalance, the tail doesn’t trap. The flex is so well balanced! It forgives; you can adjust the turn radius to go towards shorter or longer radii.
The lifted edges are less easy and certainly less friendly because the Kästle MX75 catches a bit and gets onto the edge very quickly. It wants to carve and launch straight into the turn. When you try to slow it down and calm its enthusiasm, to put it sideways, it’s a bit more complicated. So, it requires attention.
Like the Kästle MX88, the Kästle MX75 makes a characteristic little noise in the tip, which doesn’t affect its stability at all. There’s no loss of solidity on the edge at the front.
The short turns are not its thing. The Kästle MX75 really starts to express itself on medium turns.
High-level manufacturing quality: glide, finishing at the tip with carbon and metal inserts directly integrated into the structure.
An excellent ski for icy, hard snow, on-piste? A powerful ski but not dominant for high-speed skiing. A high price but top-notch performance. A First award for this Kästle MX75.
