Blizzard Anomaly 88

This is a ski we really liked, one that almost won a First Award. It just lacks that little extra something to be crowned. However, the Blizzard Anomaly 88 remains an excellent all-mountain ski.

A true all-rounder, solid underfoot, and relatively easy to ski, with a strong presence in the tail and a long edge: the Blizzard Anomaly 88 allows you to complete smooth turns and provides great sensations. Its feel is that of a “traditional” ski in terms of grip and performance—this is not meant negatively, quite the opposite: it’s a reliable ski, particularly when it comes to edge transitions.

Even though the rocker is present both in the tip and tail, the effect is well-controlled and subtle. This is a great choice for those who like skis that are stable at speed, with solid pressure underfoot. While not ultra-performance-oriented (it’s not a racing ski), it performs very well for a skier who may want to push the slope. You can really press into the ski, and it responds well. It also handles bumps quite well.

The Blizzard Anomaly 88 is a perfect ski for a ski instructor: when you want to go fast, it delivers; when you want to carve, it holds well in long turns; when you want to skid or slide, it’s comfortable; and when you venture off-piste, its width and good shovel rise make it quite forgiving… It performs decently in deep snow, though not with exceptional ease. That said, remember it is a versatile ski.

You need to work the turn with the Blizzard Anomaly 88. If you don’t add anything, it stays in its radius and doesn’t do much. It’s not inert, but it remains calm unless engaged. If you want to tighten the radius, you really need to press forward. To increase the radius, just apply slight pressure on the tail, and it will respond. It holds relatively well on hard snow. In softer snow, it’s fairly easy to manage. You can feel that its flex adapts, and it’s less demanding than some skis in this all-mountain category. However, it remains energized underfoot. For a skier weighing up to 75 kg, the Blizzard Anomaly 88 does its job perfectly. Beyond that, a skilled skier may hit its limits.

The overall verdict is positive, except for its somewhat lackluster glide. A good point: the edges wrap around the tip for excellent protection against impacts and increased durability. The 3D topsheet is quite nice, resistant to dings. Well-built, the ski has a great finish. There’s a small Blizzard insert at the back of the ski. The minimalist design is not particularly exciting.
