These Therm-Ic Ultra Warm Comfort S.E.T + S-Pack 1400B heated socks are unique because they prioritize precision in the ski boot. Only one heating line wraps nearly around the toes. You retain all the sensations of the boot and the control, avoiding thick socks that need to integrate resistances under the arch of the foot or on the outer side, for example.
The heat distribution of the Therm-Ic Ultra Warm Comfort S.E.T + S-Pack 1400B is interesting because it is localized and does not (or minimally) cause sweating. Focusing on the toe area makes sense since this is where thermal loss and moisture from the boot tend to concentrate. However, it’s recommended to manage the heat levels carefully: it’s better to heat gently but consistently than to suddenly raise the temperature.
When putting on the Therm-Ic Ultra Warm Comfort S.E.T + S-Pack 1400B for the first time, you feel the seam containing the heating system around the toes. After a while, this sensation disappears. It’s essential to adjust the socks carefully before putting your foot into the boot.
Precision and comfort are on point—there is no rubbing on the tibial crest, and the sock is thin. It is knitted with Merino wool. Compared to other Therm-Ic socks we’ve tested, we appreciated that the underside of the foot was treated like a “real” sock without a coating that could promote sweating.
Another major plus of the Therm-Ic Ultra Warm Comfort S.E.T + S-Pack 1400B is the ability to control them via Bluetooth. Pairing is quick. You can then increase or decrease the heat from your smartphone. For example, you can heat one side more than the other: it’s simple and efficient, and it saves you from lifting your pants and contorting to activate the controls on the batteries.
Attaching the batteries to the socks is a breeze: snap buttons + elastic strap. The batteries stay in place and do not interfere with leg movement.
Therm-Ic claims up to 9 hours of heating, which seems reasonable, although these numbers depend on the temperature and power setting.
Regarding durability, we can only vouch for the batteries we’ve been using for several seasons with Therm-Ic socks. They hold their charge over time. As for the durability of the sock itself, that will need to be checked at the end of a ski season. You must follow the washing instructions carefully: turn the socks inside out before washing. Wash the socks by hand or in a machine (in a laundry bag) at a maximum of 30°C. Use a slow spin cycle: 400 rpm maximum. Never dry in a tumble dryer or on a heat source. Prefer flat drying. Do not use bleach. Do not use fabric softener.
