We carried out this ski jacket test in varied and wintry weather conditions at the start of the season enabling us to fully make the post of the product. We tested the Millet Snowbasin with the Millet Telluride pants.
In very cold and windy temperatures (-10), the insulation and warmth provided by the Primaloft fabrics and filling was faultless. The Millet Snowbasin jacket lets you calmly start an icy session without needing to multiply your underlayers. One more-or-less warm layer was always enough during these tests even if we aren’t very bothered by the cold.
The jacket’s thickness to weight ratio is standard, with a very classic fit and nice color scheme. These bright colors also provide guaranteed safety (you are seen).
Whilst skiing, we appreciated the suppleness of the various performance fabrics incorporated in the Millet Snowbasin. The stretch zones are intelligently positioned according to the level of mobility and at the elbows and upper back. Therefore, movement is comfortable and smooth, without ever being hindered or making the product heavy.
The membranes used by the Millet Snowbasin are designed to provide excellent breathability and waterproofing, which we can confirm! Where’s the Millet Snowbasin’s limit? For intense efforts whilst “ski touring” for example, which the jacket is not really designed for.
It has performant water repellency, especially on the panel where your arms bend. The outer fabric takes a long time to get saturated, so moisture never got through the entire jacket despite extensive exposure to the rain.
We loved the attention to detail in this Millet Snowbasin’s design. Among others: YKK waterproof zippers, heat-sealed seams, small flaps covering the top of the zips; very thin reinforcement bands on the shoulders; supple and comfortable internal cuff at the end of the sleeve; snowskirt with elastic silicone bands, inner lining around the collar and in front of the chin, soft to the touch and effective; a small additional vertical zipped opening at the collar to increase the diameter if necessary.
The essential pockets are all present. Inside left zipped pocket. On the right (for once, left-handers are happy), a wide mesh pocket; a small smartphone-format padded pocket, closed with a Velcro flap. On the outside, two large side pockets, one on the left chest with the classic goggles or glasses piece of fabric cleaner, zipped ventilation under each arm. The ski pass pocket with its large protective flap has not been omitted on the left forearm.
The Millet Snowbasin’s removable hood is firmly attached to the collar (rear zip and press studs on the side). It envelops and keeps you warm. With slight indents on the sides, it doesn’t obstruct lateral vision. Its perimeter and depth are adjusted with elastic cords. It fits perfectly. Its front top zone juts out slightly and is stiffened slightly to better protect the face from bad weather. It’s not big enough to wear a helmet underneath.
Good value for money considering all its qualities and finish. We loved this jacket perfectly suited to all-weather ski usage. It is packed with qualities: excellent comfort, immaculate finish, and full accessories.
