OakleyFlow Scape L Snow Goggles 50th Anniversary

Each Oakley goggle test is an event within our editorial team. First, there is the design, constantly evolving at the brand. You either love it or you don’t, but one thing is certain: Oakley products never leave anyone indifferent. Then there is Oakley’s willingness to take risks, to try, to experiment with shapes and technologies, sometimes even stepping back or making changes along the way. This is exactly what consumers expect from a brand that never stops pushing boundaries.

This stunning Oakley Flow Scape L Snow Goggles 50th Anniversary perfectly reflects the brand’s DNA. This premium product makes a strong statement with both its look and its price! Needless to say, it is worth protecting it from scratches using the textile pouch and the semi-rigid case that can be slipped into a backpack. The lens is surrounded by a subtle frame that helps (to some extent) prevent accidental ski hits when the goggles are worn vertically while riding chairlifts.

The goggles come with two interchangeable lenses. Traditionally, one is designed for bright, sunny days and the other for poor weather conditions. We searched in vain for instructions explaining how to change the lenses using the so-called Switchlock Technology. No manual is included with the Oakley Flow Scape L Snow Goggles 50th Anniversary. It is also absent from the brand’s website product page. There are a few older YouTube videos explaining a previous version of this system… In any case, with a bit of trial and—most importantly—being careful not to touch the lenses, you eventually discover that you need to pull the red lever, pull back the strap wings, and release the lens to replace it. Once learned, the operation is simple, but it does require a bit of practice to correctly position the new lens.

When it comes to optical quality, these goggles are flawless across the board. The field of view is incredible—a true panoramic experience. Oakley claims it is 60% wider than that of the Oakley Line Miner. The level of detail, lack of distortion, UV protection, and excellent fog management make these goggles a benchmark.

This leaves the question of the two lenses. Should one instead opt for a photochromic lens that automatically adapts to changing light conditions, but also has its limitations in very bright light and especially in bad weather? The dual-lens system requires manual changes, but it guarantees having the optimal lens for the moment. The downside is having to switch lenses with every significant change in light conditions. Ultimately, this comes down to personal preference.

As mentioned, vision is outstanding. Helmet compatibility is excellent, as is the smooth strap adjustment system. No squeaking or noise was detected.

We do have some reservations about the molded Vision Rapt facial foam, designed to conform to the skier’s face. Its contact surface with the skin is limited in certain areas, such as around the nose and forehead. The foam is also relatively firm, unlike the bi-density foams commonly used. Does this affect overall comfort? We mainly felt that the goggles sit quite prominently on the face.

The gold Oakley logo, fine gold sparkles, and the 50th Anniversary branding give the Oakley Flow Scape L Snow Goggles 50th Anniversary a very premium feel. Paired with the gold lens, the picture is complete.

Once again, Oakley delivers a superb product, close to exceptional—especially in terms of optical performance and design. The lens-changing system does require some practice to master. A high-end goggle designed for demanding riders.
