Blizzard Anomaly 84

Raw efficiency at its best

In the all-mountain category, the Blizzard Anomaly 84 stands out with its solid construction. It features pronounced tip rocker and, to a lesser extent, tail rocker. The tail shape is subtle and narrow, giving the ski a great facility for pivoting.

In terms of maneuverability, it’s flawless in soft, slushy, or spring snow. It excels in chunky snow and feels very pleasant when flat-based or performing a drifted turn: you just need to adopt an upright stance or initiate a slight turn, and the ski hooks into the arc naturally.

A strong and energetic character…

The Blizzard Anomaly 84 has plenty of response underfoot, even sending quite a bit of energy back into your legs. You also notice a rather muted sound signature on certain types of snow—a characteristic that is quickly forgotten once in action. On hard snow, the ski feels stiff and energetic, boasting a long effective edge that stays well-planted on the ground, even though it transmits slightly more vibrations than some competitors.

We particularly love its tip: a highly efficient rectangular shape that swallows bumps and lets you charge through terrain without flinching. Be careful, however: for average-sized skiers, the ski feels quite stiff underfoot and in the forebody. At low speeds, it will struggle to flex through moguls. On the other hand, it handles acceleration brilliantly. This is a model that truly shines in the hands of heavier or stronger skiers capable of pushing it physically.

Carved turns and technical demands

On edge, the Blizzard Anomaly 84 demands commitment. Since its flex is neither the softest nor the most fluid, it doesn’t give up its secrets instantly. To vary turn radii or shorten the arc in a carved turn, you need to impart movement, refine your body position, control your angulation, push on your feet, and play with weight distribution. It doesn’t roll through turns completely instinctively, but it amply rewards the technical skier who knows how to tame it. It’s a solid tool, built to last season after season and go anywhere.

Two main drawbacks stand out. A lack of fluidity compared to models that are much more instinctive and easy to access. Edge grip on hard snow that falls slightly short of expectations: it requires an immaculate tune and precise control to feel secure on ice.

Finishes and aesthetics

Regarding build quality, the topsheet proved to be very rugged. The overall aesthetic remains rather austere, without flashy inserts, even though the craftsmanship is clean—as seen in the edge wrapping all the way around the tip and a well-finished tail. The ski carries a noticeable weight, which is a pledge of solidity. Finally, the glide quality is good, coupled with a reasonable price tag.

A solid, high-performing all-mountain ski well-armed in its category, even if its understated design doesn’t quite reflect its true potential on the snow.
