We tested the 361° Spire 4 at the same time as the 361° Meraki 3. These two shoes seem very similar at first. The 9mm drop is identical with an almost similar distribution (16.5 in front and 25.2 in the back), but the overall feeling is very different.
The 361° Spire 4 has much more cushioning. These shoes filter a lot, and are slower than the Meraki 3. We immediately note their great heel filtration but also under the forefoot. These shoes remain quite dynamic, they spring you forward and release a good stride without losing too much energy in the cushioning. On the other hand we lose precision, especially laterally: the 361° Spire 4 are less “solid” for pronator runners.
These are very nice shoes for training, the days when you don’t want to suffer too much, when you can indulge in placement errors that you don’t feel juddering in your knee joints
We also really appreciated this 361° Spire 4 on stony trails. Their cushioning allow you to run without any apprehension, as if you were on the hardest tarmac.
Forefoot precision is a little less exact, due to the more extensible mesh on both sides of the feet.
At the heel, despite the effective grip, it seemed to us that the Meraki 3 was a little more precise in this area (the back of the heel seems higher). But anyway the 361° Spire 4 are very good and very comfortable.
Weighing 290g in size 42.5, they are lightweight.
The lacing has been well-designed and provides precise and powerful adjustment. The thick, well-designed tongue fulfills its purpose and the oval lacing is above all criticism.
The 361° Spire 4 are great good training shoes. The cushioning allows you to enjoy stony trails without difficulty. They are very comfortable and designed for pleasure above all else.
