It’s always a unique experience running in a pair of Altra. The
Altra Paradigm 6 is loyal to this experience with their DNA zero drop and wide toe box! With this model you can add the king-sized cushioning.
Let’s start with the zero drop, which requires, if you are not used to zero-drop shoes, to do progressive sessions. Because even if our first sensations with this Altra Paradigm 6 resulted in less tension in the calves (compared to other Altras, trail running for example), after several kilometers, you still feel that forefoot placement (or an aptitude for zero drop) is a good idea. There’s your warning. This shoe, like the other Altras, is a great educational tool to change your posture and save your knees by trying to run forefoot more.
The second point: the cushioning, which has a unique personality. It is lively throughout its length and width. Runners who have a very precise foot strike and need a solid spring will hate it. Those who want softness, proprioception adaptability (the foot works laterally with the Altra Paradigm 6), substantial heel and forefoot filtration, will be in heaven. You have that sensation that we describe every time we test an Altra: you feel like you are on a rubber plate that moves in all directions. One tester described it like wearing a surfer’s shoe!
Maybe the heel grip could be slightly more powerful.
The support while running is good, including in the turns. The rubber doesn’t make a “cheap” noise. The price is quite high for this Altra Paradigm 6.
