This Asics Gel-Fuji Trabuco Sky won the full vote hands down, a shoe that lets you to go (very) fast on rolling and non-technical terrain. Its only limitation is you can feel spikey stones underfoot in the downhill due to the flexibility (and thiness of the sole) at the front of the shoe. But for all the less craggy sections, the Asics Gel-Fuji Trabuco Sky perfectly fulfills its mission.
We have a light, dynamic and very precise shoe whose cushioning is particularly well calculated. We weighed it at 225g in size 43.5, not bad at all considering the reinforcements the Asics Gel-Fuji Trabuco Sky has: very effective stone guard and heel protection with unquestionable performance.
It has undeniable dynamism, we also ran on the road returning from off-road runs, if you ignore the funny noise the lugs make, you benefit from a low-lying shoe, very well balanced (no roll), that rebounds midfoot and especially forefoot. A pleasure because we’re not dealing with a stiff board and inertia.
The cushioning is one of the Asics Gel-Fuji Trabuco Sky’s qualities. Noticeable comfort as you don’t feel vibrations and also when you get tired, and you begin to have poor foot placement but it isn’t spongy at all. It feels like there’s minimal filtration, but it isn’t, it’s very real but still understated. Heavier runners will no doubt quickly see the cushioning’s limits.
The foot is well enveloped and provides good precision. The heel is no exception with a great rear hold. The front is more suited to narrow feet, the instep is firmly held, and the automatic lace is powerful (it’s a bit long). It stores inside the asymmetric pocket.
Important note: the Asics Gel-Fuji Trabuco Sky sizes very small (in length and width). A size above your normal size is fine, one size and a half is better. Its 4mm drop is also to be taken into account so you don’t injure your calves if you usually have a higher drop.
The Asics Gel-Fuji Trabuco Sky doesn’t soak up water, which is one of its release marketing points for this Sky. Beautifully made with few seams. The overall comfort is good despite having very little foam padding.
