Here’s the annual Asics rendezvous: the new version of the iconic Gel-Nimbus, number 27!
As with last year, this new release doesn’t present a revolution. It remains the ultra-comfortable shoe, perfect for long distances, or other formats, for runners who prioritize comfort. It’s more like a Rolls Royce than a McLaren…
The external modifications on the Asics Gel-Nimbus 27 are minor. There are some changes to the eyelets, a new ultra-comfortable mesh, carefully crafted. We still love the rear tongue, which makes it easier to put the shoe on, as it’s an extension of the elastic fabric around the ankle.
The foot feels like it’s in a cocoon: soft, gently surrounded by foam. There are no hard spots or creases. It’s like being in a cozy chair. The tongue, as always with this model, is ultra-soft and protective. The foot is well-wrapped, while still leaving ample room in the toe-box. The mesh stretches just the right amount.
While running, the sensation remains soft. The forward rocker is average for this type of shoe designed for road running. Heel height is 43.5 millimeters. Its weight is the same as the previous season’s model.
The foam in the sole provides significant cushioning in the heel. The forefoot area is also well protected. The substantial heel cushioning offers some responsiveness but also a bit of lateral instability, which is easily manageable. When run properly, the Asics Gel-Nimbus 27 allows you to rack up the miles efficiently without feeling weighed down. Of course, it’s not designed to be a race machine to break records.
It stays true to its DNA: a very comfortable, soft shoe that provides excellent cushioning for long-distance running. Impeccable construction.
