The Brooks Glycerin Max 2 is designed for road training sessions, daily runs, and longer outings. As its name suggests, the Glycerin Max 2 features king-size cushioning, with a very pronounced effect in the heel and effective shock absorption under the forefoot and metatarsals.
Without going too deep into the technology, understanding the Glycerin Max 2 requires a look at the nitrogen-infused DNA Tuned midsole. The size of the cells varies between the heel and the forefoot, transitioning from larger cells at the rear to smaller ones up front. The result is powerful cushioning combined with good energy return, delivering efficient propulsion. The forward roll is enhanced by a rocker effect, making transitions smooth and fluid.
While the highly effective cushioning allows runners to rack up the miles, there is a noticeable rolling motion. Runners with an unbalanced foot strike may experience some instability. For others, the shoe feels extremely comfortable and pleasant to run in. It could be described as “soft,” although the term isn’t entirely accurate, as the foam does not dull the stride. Overall, the Brooks Glycerin Max 2 remains a fairly responsive shoe.
We appreciated the reassuring outsole on slippery surfaces such as sidewalks and damp concrete sections. The soft rubber provides convincing grip, although it does tend to wear down relatively quickly.
Build quality is excellent, with no visible glue marks or stitching issues. Comfort received high scores. The traditional lacing system offers solid lockdown once properly adjusted. At 320 grams, the shoe is not among the lightest, but the weight is consistent with the comfort-oriented philosophy of the Glycerin Max 2. The drop is 6 mm.
A comfortable road shoe for runners who prioritize cushioning above all else. A good balance between responsiveness and comfort, making it a solid option for recovery runs and long distances.
