Since this fall, we have been testing the Ascent harness by Climbing Technology.
A versatile harness. This fully adjustable harness is designed for various uses: climbing, lead climbing, multi-pitch routes, and winter mountaineering. It positions itself as a mid-range model but proves to be highly adaptable.
Tested in multi-pitch climbing, ice climbing, and climbing gyms, it has demonstrated its versatility. Its design, focused on versatility and comfort, makes it a harness that is comfortable to wear, even with bulky clothing like ski pants.
The Ascent by Climbing Technology in size M weighs 430 grams, a reasonable weight for this type of harness. While lightweight isn’t its standout feature, this weight doesn’t significantly impact performance during multi-pitch climbing.
Its four adjustable buckles allow for precise adjustments to fit the waist, the user’s body, and the clothing worn. The waistband remains comfortable even when loaded with gear (cams, quickdraws). The ergonomic leg loops offer excellent support without any discomfort. The waistband and leg loop buckles are padded with breathable mesh that dries quickly. The geometry of the leg loops ensures an even distribution of the load while hanging.
The precise waist adjustment keeps the belay loop aligned, balancing the gear loops. The comfort of the adjustable leg loops is especially appreciated during multi-pitch climbs.
The Ascent harness is equipped with four rectangular gear loops, allowing for proper organization of gear and preventing it from sliding around or gathering in one spot. These four large gear loops are positioned efficiently, providing easy access to quickdraws or other cams.
A small ring at the back of the harness is designed for attaching a chalk bag.
Two small gear loops at the back allow for fixing items that are used less frequently, such as shoes or a hammer.
There are also two adjustable, detachable leg loop straps at the back of each leg loop.
Its robust design and high-quality finish reflect careful craftsmanship. A wear indicator on the lower attachment point helps determine when the harness needs to be replaced.
Our testers concluded from this experience: “The Ascent harness by Climbing Technology is very comfortable, adjustable in every way, and highly versatile. The gear loops are easily accessible. Its price is very reasonable for the versatility this product offers. Its major advantages are comfort and versatility.”
