This is an undisputed product, this Osprey Transporter Carry-on 44 bag has proved its worth during our multiple trips. Among its many qualities, we particularly appreciated its compactness and practicality. It is a backpack and a small suitcase. When you have to walk a little and you don’t want to carry it using one of the two handles, just take out the shoulder straps and put the Transporter Carry-on 44 on your back. You get a real carrying efficiency even if the bag’s back remains flat (it does become uncomfortable after a long time). A wide waist belt (detachable) stabilizes the Transporter. The straps are also wide and well padded. Osprey did not forget to kit out the chest strap with a rescue whistle. All straps slide well and adjust with one hand. The straps are stored in a jiffy in a dedicated space.
The Osprey Transporter Carry-on 44 has multiple storage pockets, this is a good point but you do tend to get a little lost and need a good memory to remember where you slipped your personal stuff. You can fit everything into this bag which has a huge capacity and it’s even accepted by all the airlines as hand luggage: laptop, clothes, technical equipment (harness, trail shoes, tri-suit), headlamp, toiletries, protective jacket, gloves, first aid kit, pens, etc.
Beware, the compartment for the laptop may be padded but it is still pretty supple and so not resistant to big shocks.
We loved the magazines pocket (headphones and chargers), very convenient when you’re on the plane and you want to find something to read easily without unpacking all the contents of the bag. The laptop compartment is equipped with a small zipped pocket in which you can slip in papers and/or money. This pocket isn’t accessible once you’re carrying the bag on your back, which limits pickpockets.
Zips, as well as the straps, slide well and never get stuck in the lining or corners of the bag. The large central zip can be closed with a small padlock (not supplied).
The Osprey Transporter Carry-on 44 can be attached to a large travel bag like the Rolling Transporter 120 (same Osprey range, tested here: https://www.test4outside.com/product/osprey-rolling-transporter-120/): simply pass the bigger bag’s handle through the Carry-on 44 wide strap situated at the back. NB. It isn’t that easy when it is loaded with a laptop (it stiffens the bag) but in the end, you can move with two bags, including the Carry-on 44 that does not fall off, hung onto the Transporter 120. Very convenient in airports. In general, we also put a backpack shoulder strap through the handle of the Rolling Transporter 120 to avoid pickpocketing.
The Osprey Transporter Carry-on 44 is a robust and almost waterproof bag, very practical when you’re in a tropical country, in the rain and when you have a laptop inside …
So, as it weighs relatively little you can slide it empty inside a bigger bag and use it at your destination.
The Osprey Transporter Carry-on 44 is a very good small travel bag, allowed in the cabin on airplanes. Very practical, solid, almost waterproof, it is an excellent complement to a large bag in the hold to carry personal effects that are fragile or not. Our team logically awarded it the FIRST Award.
