Columbia presents the Triple Canyon 24L as a backpack suitable for long day hikes or even two-day treks. In our opinion, that’s a stretch, as the carrying system, pack volume, and hip belt are not designed for extended use or for carrying heavier gear loads.
However, for single-day hikes—especially fast hiking—this Columbia Triple Canyon 24L is highly recommended. Why? Because it’s lightweight, comfortable on the back (as long as you don’t overload it), and very well equipped to handle bad weather: it includes an integrated rain cover (so you won’t lose it), which is adjustable to adapt to the pack’s changing volume. The light waist belt can be adjusted from both sides.
The semi-rigid back panel follows the hiker’s movements well and supports a reasonably loaded pack. Be mindful of heavy items like thermoses—they should be placed in the center of the pack. The hydration bladder compartment (bladder not included) is well designed.
It features the usual internal storage spaces (non-zippered), a key clip, zipper pulls with grips for easier handling, outer pockets, pole attachment points, and a side compartment for an extra water bottle.
Also available in a 36-liter version.
A very good, lightweight pack for fast-paced day hikes—well thought-out and affordably priced.
