The Deuter Futura Pro 32 hiking backpack has been carefully designed using high-quality materials. It is difficult to find any real flaws because every detail has been meticulously thought through to maximize efficiency. Despite offering numerous carrying and storage features, as well as an integrated rain cover, its weight remains impressively low. The Deuter Futura Pro 32 weighs just 1,580 grams and is designed to comfortably carry loads between 6 and 10 kilograms.
Although this backpack has many strengths, let us begin with its carrying comfort. A very lightweight internal frame provides excellent rigidity when the pack is fully loaded, preventing deformation and eliminating unwanted squeaks while hiking. At the same time, the Deuter Futura Pro 32 retains a degree of lateral flexibility, allowing it to move naturally with the hiker through technical terrain.
Another particularly successful feature—and certainly one of the most important—is the back system. Here, we finally find a truly breathable suspended mesh back panel that combines outstanding ventilation with excellent carrying precision. The mesh panel is connected to the exceptionally wide hip belt, creating a highly stable and comfortable carrying platform. The hip belt itself is remarkably comfortable, highly breathable, and provides powerful load transfer and support. Most importantly, the mesh back panel remains genuinely separated from the pack’s contents, creating substantial airflow between the backpack and the user’s back. Continuing with carrying comfort, the ergonomically shaped shoulder straps are both slim and soft, while the foam padding distributes pressure evenly across the shoulders.
Last but certainly not least, the Deuter Futura Pro 32 features an adjustable back-length system with five different positions. Unlike some systems that rely on Velcro panels or straps that can be cumbersome to adjust, the Deuter Futura Pro 32 uses a simple button mechanism that allows the desired back length to be selected in seconds.
There is little need to dwell on the numerous storage compartments, multiple access points, or the smooth-running zippers fitted with slim cord pulls and molded end pieces for easy operation. One particularly smart feature deserves mention: the left shoulder strap incorporates a trekking pole attachment system inspired by trail running packs. It allows folded poles to be secured quickly, easily, and efficiently without removing the backpack.
So, what could possibly be missing from the Deuter Futura Pro 32? After searching carefully—and for quite a long time—we eventually found something: there is no emergency whistle. Admittedly, our determination to find a flaw may say more about us than about the backpack itself.
The Deuter Futura Pro 32 earns our First Award. Thoughtfully engineered and seriously well built, it stands out for its exceptional carrying comfort. The performance of the suspended mesh back system is close to outstanding. A true must-have for hiking enthusiasts.
