DalbelloDS 120

New for 2019.

Dalbello, the famous ski boot brand has revamped its technical product range to launch this DS series.

When you open the box and take out the new Dalbello you are struck by the stunning bi-injection shell work. It’s pure eye candy you can’t wait to try out!

They seem relatively lightweight, which is becoming a trend with 2019 boots. In the same spirit we have already tested the Head Nexo LYT (https://www.test4outside.com/en/produit/head-nexo-lyt/) and the Lange RX Superleggera (https://www.test4outside.com/en/produit/lange-rx-superleggera/). The difficulty for the manufacturers is finding the just balance between lightness and rigidity. How will the Dalbello DS fare?

With 2000g (size 27,5) they are 200g more than the Lange. Riding you have without a doubt a genuine 120 flex. Pressure transmission is quality, direct and you feel that your energy is not being lost. On forward pressure the shell distorts a bit but nothing too troubling.

The boots feel light and pleasant to use. Feet are snug against the shell. Although the Dalbello DS 120 are not slippers. After the first descent the foam squishes down and the boot comfort is more reactive. So you need to readjust the buckle system for correct fitting, especially on the top of the foot.

The toe box is 100mm wide. We would’ve preferred a little more pinch, enveloping around the Achilles tendon, but again that depends on your morphology. The lateral rigidity is performant. The liner is warm enough and your foot slides in easily. When you take your feet out the insole has a tendency to fold up as you slide out; this is a problem we have already faced with Lange. These type of boots could do with stiffer insoles.

The Dalbello DS 120 is surprising because we notice great care in the manufacture of the boots, the materials: injection quality, powerful and well-designed buckles, quality adjustable strap, well finished liner with straps for helping you put them on, etc. Yet there are a few small details that let them down a little: screws that aren’t that aesthetic on the buckles and at the ankles, the folding flap on the top of the foot which is not that precise and the collar which makes some noise when you flex…

This Dalbello DS 120 is still a very good boot, precise for good skiers who want to develop powerful turns. Don’t forget to check the price, 429 euros, against 599 euros for the famous Lange Superleggera.
