The rocker height of this Dynastar M Cross 88 has been reduced, and the ski has also been lightened. This resulted in gaining more edge length. Its main characteristic lies in the mix between very high ease of use and a presence underfoot. Let’s explain: it’s a ski that pivots extremely easily, very pleasant as soon as you want to initiate a skid or a slide. Easy but present when you really put it on edge: when you need reactivity underfoot, it stays true. Entering a turn is super easy, you don’t even need to engage the tip. It pivots very easily when flat.
The other characteristic concerns the carved turn; you need to engage it with pressure on the heel. If you’re pressing on the tongue, it won’t work. To make it carve, you have to shift your weight to the back, and then it follows the curve on its radius. If you reposition yourself to the front, you get a ski that becomes oversteery, losing its fluidity on the edge. So you have to balance this front-to-back equilibrium, probably even more than the lateral angulation.
We liked this Dynastar M Cross 88 even though, for us, it lacks accessibility on the edge on the piste, meaning something instantaneous in the transition without asking too many questions.
In all the on-piste/off-piste transitions, it is very pleasant because it’s an easy, light ski with almost no inertia in the tip. It taps a bit at high speed, but it absorbs vibrations; it doesn’t transfer them to the legs, which is a big positive point.
Regarding grip when angulating strongly, it manages to hold, but you shouldn’t shake it too much.
A more “solid” skier might deform the energized area underfoot more easily. Anyway, the Dynastar M Cross 88 is a good, solid ski. On spring snow conditions where you need a very facilitating pivot, it is truly effective. With a backpack, it’s a real joy.
Very nice perceived quality, with beautiful transparency effects, frosted areas. However, its decoration marks during edge impacts. Dynastar hasn’t forgotten the elastomer heel. Very nice tip with a beautiful die-cut. Superb glide.
A truly beautiful all-mountain ski, pleasant, easy, light.
