Julbo The Peak LTThe Peak LT

In the Petzl or Grivel style of helmets released in previous seasons, the Julbo The Peak LT has dual EN1077 and EN12492 certification. The first is for Alpine skiing and snowboarding, the second is for mountaineering. This type of product must fulfill being both resistant and safe enough for speed activities (skiing), light and breathable for mountaineering or ski touring.

Let’s start with its weight, 325 grams in size M, in mountaineering/summer mode.

The Julbo The Peak LT is also sold with another removable internal lining for winter warmth and ear protection. The Velcro pads are minimalist, no doubt to be lighter, yet it sometimes the lining moves.

The Julbo The Peak LT is a versatile helmet that doesn’t replace a pure mountaineering product and definitely not an Alpine helmet. But this “two-in-one” product is quite balanced for the person who only wants to buy one helmet. It should be noted that the Julbo The Peak LT does not have Mips technology, which is almost mandatory for ski helmets.

During long approach walks or uphill climbs with skins, the Julbo The Peak LT is quite pleasant to wear because it’s lightweight and ventilated. The ventilation can’t be closed, which in ski mode can be a problem even if the warm lining is used (you feel the cool air passing through). The head-hold is quite good, quite comfortable but the foam padding is still pretty thin. The dial adjustment (not a Boa system) is limited, so choose the size very carefully, don’t hesitate to take the smaller size to be able to adjust the dial correctly.

In pure skiing mode with the warm lining, it’s obviously more comfortable, but not up to a 100% ski helmet. On the other hand, its lightweight is real plus. The classic chinstrap is easy to handle and has a padded cover that protects your chin.

We can’t make a definite judgment on the Julbo The Peak LT’s protection, only a crash test could give proper analysis. In any case, it officially passed the exam for both standards.

It has an obviously ski-oriented look. Goggles hold on well and two loops are provided for a headlamp: make sure you test it before going out at night with your headlamp brand.

The Julbo The Peak LT is versatile with its two standards for mountaineering and skiing. It is therefore a mixed product, not necessarily super effective in either of the two activities: it is a choice for the person who only wants to buy one helmet.
