Dynastar M-Vertical 88 Open

We are very familiar with Dynastar’s ski touring range, a well-developed line of skis that are generally easy to handle.

The Dynastar M-Vertical 88 Open draws on a long heritage of mountain skis designed for steep terrain, sometimes on hard snow. These are skis that inspire confidence and provide a high level of safety, whatever the skiing speed.

The Dynastar M-Vertical 88 Open delivers very good edge grip and the ability to ski securely, even at higher speeds. That said, it is not designed for pure carved turns on edge. With a 20-metre sidecut radius, it leaves little room for tight, fully carved turns. Instead, it performs best with pivoted or skidded turns, where stability at the end of the turn and fore-aft balance on the edge are excellent. The ski feels reassuring at any edge angle.

Care should be taken when choosing the ski length: it should not be too long, as the Dynastar M-Vertical 88 Open can feel a bit demanding when strong edge hold is required.

Balance is easy to find, with the Dynastar M-Vertical 88 Open naturally positioning the skier in the middle of the ski. There is no need to exaggerate flexion or forward/backward pressure. It is effective along the entire length of the edge, and the flex is well tuned.

On the ascent, we appreciated its light weight. Without sacrificing downhill performance, the Dynastar M-Vertical 88 Open remains efficient when climbing. Its relatively straight sidecut provides extra security on traverses during the ascent.

The Dynastar M-Vertical 88 Open could be slightly more playful on hard snow in terms of edge-to-edge pivoting, but choosing the right length largely addresses this.

The design is quite appealing.

This ski is well suited to mountain skiers focused on steep terrain and ski touring that demands reliability and stability. It is a successful ski that can be trusted.
