Time Xpro 10

FIRST

As much as the testers were divided about the qualities of the Time Osmos 15 shoes, the verdict on the Time Xpro 10 pedals was unanimous (FIRST Award). They are undeniably excellent pedals that combine many qualities.

We tested the model 10 with a steel axle. The Time Xpro 12 has a Titanium axle (188g per pair, 290 euros) and lastly, the top of the range Time Xpro 15 with a hollow Titanium axle with ceramic bearings (175g, 450 euros).

The major strong point of these Time Xpro 10 are that they are easy to clip in and out. Sheer joy! The operation is incredibly easy. Your shoe quickly finds its position because the pedal naturally goes into a “ready to use” position. Then, you discover what Time calls the “iClic”. To roughly summarize, the carbon blade does not have to be constrained when clipping in. You don’t force the tip of the shoe, just put the foot on the pedal and the system engages without much pressure. The “click” is neat and reflects the perceived and real quality of the carbon Time Xpro 10.

To unclip your shoes, they have aa 5 degree angular freedom. They are perfect, you never feel trapped by the Time Xpro 10, always ready to release your feet. For more experienced cyclists, Time offers fixed stops (perfect for getting tendonitis if improperly adjusted).

To summarize these Time Xpro 10 provide excellent user comfort and a great feeling of security. Unlike some pedals whose carbon blade stiffness is defined in the factory, Time allows you to adjust the Xpro 10 with a screwdriver. You can choose three unclipping positions: touring, sports-touring and competition.

So when riding you have pedals with high comfort rate and safety. You never feel trapped by the Time Xpro 10. No unexpected unclipping either. The support surface is good and there were no squeaks or small extraneous noises. We can’t comment on performance, a professional cyclist would certainly have a more precise analysis to deliver.

The cleat is quite high, we were slightly apprehensive when we took our first steps on tarmac or ground. Fortunately, there’s a soft layer of plastic that prevents you slipping as is common with most cycling shoes, which always causes that hesitant and comical cyclists walk.

The cleats and screws weigh 90g. We weighed the pedal at 110g, which the rather bulky look of the pedal didn’t show.
As a comparison, the Look Keos weighed 117g.

The pedal holds up over time, we just noted that the brand name gradually disappears.

The Time Xpro 10 are excellent pedals with a very practical and well-designed clipping system. It is a very good product, well-finished, reliable, efficient, and versatile. They earned the Test4outside.com FIRST Award hands down.
